DECKED Tool Box

Our first recommendation for a truck tool box: a composite tub and lid with 288 liters of storage, a lid that opens with one touch and locks built in. We sell it and install it at our shop in Arvada. DECKED lists it at $1,099.99 before installation, and the install takes about an hour.

DECKED answers most of the complaints about metal boxes

There are a lot of good truck tool boxes, and we sell several. But when someone says "I want a really good tool box" and has no brand in mind, DECKED is where we start. Metal boxes can dent, corrode, get very hot in the sun, and come with basic latches and one big empty tub. DECKED builds the Tool Box differently, and it works with the CargoGlide and the Drawer System. It is not our budget box, and not every truck needs one.

A composite tub instead of aluminum or steel

Traditional aluminum boxes have been around for decades, and we sell them. DECKED takes a different route: the tub and lid are compression-molded, glass-fiber reinforced polyester (sheet molding compound), with a steel torsion box inside the lid. There is no welded metal tub to dent or rust, and DECKED says the resin resists UV. The box weighs 106 lb and measures 71.7 by 25.5 by 16 inches. DECKED labels it made in America and backs its products with a limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

“You never know what you’re going to get when you google around, well I’m happy to say if you’re reading this you don’t need to search anymore! Professional, courteous, knowledgeable and a straight up pleasure to work with! Window tint…on point, ceramic coating…on point, ppf…on point, tonneau cover…great suggestion! “We’ll be taking all our cars here. Eric and his team just did the 3M protective film on our new Tundra. The front bumper and grill are not simple applications, Eric made sure to talk us through what to look for if any of the film isn’t holding and to bring it back in and he’d fix it for us. He also tinted the front windows and they’re a perfect match to the rest. Their prices are very competitive, but it’s the absolutely top notch customer service, communication, and workmanship that make it an easy decision to come back. We’ll be getting our tonneau cover for our truck bed, ceramic coating for our older with a lot of life in her SUV, and will start using them to detail our cars given our great experience and the fact that everyone else continues to have the same.”

288 liters, rated for 800 lb in the tub

Inside, the box is 59.9 inches long, 21.4 inches wide and 13.4 inches deep: 288 liters, about 10.2 cubic feet. That is room for power tools, hand tools, hitch equipment, straps, recovery gear, camping gear and all the small things that otherwise roll around the truck. DECKED rates the tub for 800 lb and the lid for 300 lb. DECKED says it works with its own D-co cases and the Milwaukee PACKOUT organizer, so small parts don't end up in one pile at the bottom.

One touch to open, locks built in

Your hands are usually full when you walk up to the box. The DECKED Tool Box opens with one press of an oversized button, and gas struts lift the lid. The locks are tamper-resistant and a keyed lock comes with the box. That is secure storage that keeps expensive equipment out of sight; nothing attached to a truck is theft-proof, and we won't say it is.

DECKED calls it fully weatherproof

The tub is one molded piece with no welds or seams, and gaskets seal the lid. DECKED rates the Tool Box as fully weatherproof against rain, snow and car washes, which matters on a truck that sees Front Range snow, spring rain, mountain dust and job-site mud. That is DECKED's rating; follow its care guidance and keep the gaskets clean.

Towing a gooseneck or 5th wheel? The Tool Box can stay, with clearance

DECKED says its Drawer System is not compatible with gooseneck or 5th wheel hitches, because the drawers fill the bed where the hitch goes. The Tool Box works with either, DECKED says, as long as there is at least 24 inches of depth and 6 inches of height clearance for the box. On a heavy-duty truck that tows, that makes the Tool Box the DECKED storage to look at. Tell us what you tow before choosing the storage, and we measure the hitch, the box and the truck together before ordering.

DECKED Tool Box or DECKED Drawer System

They solve different storage problems, and neither one is better for every truck. Choose the Tool Box if you want storage concentrated behind the cab, need most of the original bed floor, tow a gooseneck or 5th wheel, want a CargoGlide behind the box, or mainly carry tools. Choose the Drawer System if you carry many kinds of gear, want everything reachable from the tailgate and want a load deck over the storage for work and weekends.

Have an 8-foot bed? You may not have to choose

In an 8-foot bed, a 6-foot DECKED Drawer System leaves a 24-inch gap at the cab, and DECKED shows the Tool Box filling it. On a long-bed Super Duty, Silverado HD, Sierra HD or Ram HD, that puts a tool box, drawers and a load deck in one bed. The CargoGlide is the other 8-foot option behind the box. We check the whole configuration for your truck before ordering.

Don't buy truck storage from pictures. There is a full-size DECKED Drawer System display in our showroom, so you can see the material and how much room DECKED storage takes. The Tool Box itself isn't on display yet.

Fits most full-size trucks from 2001 on

DECKED says the Tool Box fits nearly every full-size truck built from 2001 on, with 61.375 to 70.5 inches between the inside of the bed rails. A liner, cover, hitch or other bed storage can change the answer, so send us your year, make, model, bed length and what is already in the bed, and we verify the setup.
