A warranty term is not a countdown
The Owner’s Pride warranty guarantees the coating’s chemical performance. If the coating fails to protect the paint from permanent damage by one of the causes the document lists, Owner’s Pride pays an authorized installer to repair the treated surface and supplies the coating to re-apply.
Permanent paint damage the coating fails to prevent from:
- Weather-induced fading
- Weather-induced chalking
- Weather-induced loss of gloss
- Acid rain
- Bird waste
- Tree sap
- Sun's UV rays
- De-icing agents and road salt
- Ocean spray
- Brake dust
- Rail dust
- Paint overspray
- Fuel stains
- Report damage within 30 days of it appearing. Older damage is denied.
- One repair of each treated surface per cause over the term.
- Owner's Pride authorizes the repair before any work starts. Do not buff or treat the damage yourself.
Claims line: 1-800-232-5328, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central, Monday to Friday.
No paid maintenance service or annual inspection is required to keep the warranty. The car still needs regular, proper washing.
The warranty is not transferable, so it does not pass to a new owner if you sell the car.

What it leaves out matters as much. It does not pay for body shop repainting or panel replacement, so a chip or a scratch through the clear coat sits outside it. Damage already on the car when the coating went on is excluded. A claim for damage more than 30 days old when you report it is denied, and so is a claim made after the term ends, even if the problem started inside it. Each treated surface is repaired once per cause over the term, and the total paid is capped by tier.
A claim starts with a call to Owner’s Pride, not to the shop, and the document is specific: “Do not attempt to buff or chemically treat the damage yourself.” You get a claim form and instructions for the photographs, and no repair is reimbursed until the claim has an authorization number.
The term is what the manufacturer will stand behind. How the coating performs through those years comes down to the four things below.
Four things that shorten a coating’s life in Colorado
Brush washes and dish soap
Brush and cloth tunnel washes drag grit across the paint on every pass, and the coating wears where the brushes press hardest. Dish soap and household cleaners are made to cut grease, and they work on a coating the same way. Instead, hand wash with a pH-neutral car shampoo, which is what we prefer, or use a touchless automatic wash. Our guide to washing a ceramic coated car has the full method.
Mag chloride left on for weeks
From November to March, magnesium chloride goes down on Colorado roads, and a car that goes weeks between washes carries a crust of it. A coating resists it far better than bare paint does, and it still does its job best on a clean surface. Instead, rinse after every storm, even when a full wash is not possible. The winter car washing guide covers how to do that below freezing.
A car that lives outside at altitude
Sun at 5,280 feet is harder on paint than at sea level, and a car parked outside all summer takes the full dose. Resisting UV is part of what a coating is for, and a car garaged at night asks less of it. Instead, park inside when you can, and wash often enough that nothing sits baking on the surface. The UV and altitude guide explains the difference altitude makes.
Coating over uncorrected paint
This one is decided the day the coating goes on. Existing paint defects remain visible beneath the coating unless they are corrected beforehand, so a car coated over swirls and oxidation can look tired long before its term. Instead, have the paint corrected first. At our shop, paint correction as needed is part of every tier.
How long it takes to cure, and what you can do in the meantime
A coating is dry to the touch well before it has fully cured. We do not release a car until the coating is safe to expose to water, so rain after pick-up is fine.
For the first week, do not wash the car or put soap or any cleaning chemical on it. The rule is the same for all three tiers. If a bird dropping lands on it that week, lift it off gently with a damp microfiber cloth and plain water instead of leaving it to sit. Our aftercare guide has the full routine for after that.
Self-healing: what it repairs and what it does not
Owner’s Pride builds heat-activated self-healing into its 9-year coating, Owner's Pride SELECT 9-Year, which is the coating on our Platinum tier. The 5- and 7-year coatings on Silver and Gold do not have it. Warmth from the sun relaxes the coating so that light wash marks and fine swirls in the coating become less visible over time.
It repairs marks in the coating, not in the paint. A rock chip, or a scratch that cuts through the coating into the clear coat, is physical damage, and no amount of sun closes it. The answer to that is paint protection film on the panels that take the hits.
A coating that has lived through Colorado winters, from our own shop
The best evidence for how long a coating lasts is a coated car that has been driven through years of Colorado weather and then looked at closely.
We coated a 2021 Ford F-150 with a 7-year coating in 2021, and about five years later it came back to the shop. It needed a decontamination wash to clear the road film that had built up on it. After that, the coating was still performing and beading water.
That is one truck, not a promise about every car. It is also a good example of the point in the next section: a coating that looks tired is often a healthy coating under a layer of road film.
When to recoat, and when a maintenance detail is enough
A coating shows when it is tiring. Water that used to bead in tight droplets starts sheeting off in flat patches, dirt clings after a wash, and the paint feels less slick under a clean hand. The hood and roof, which take the most sun, often show it first.
Those signs do not always mean the coating is gone. Road film and mineral deposits can sit on top of a healthy coating and mute it. A decontamination wash often brings the behavior back for far less than a new application. A full recoat is for a coating that still sheets water after that, or one past its term.
Our ceramic maintenance detail is $129. It is optional, and the Owner’s Pride warranty does not require it, or any paid maintenance or inspection, to stay in force.
